Real Salt Lake 1 – Columbus Crew 0 (pictures from leg one)
I love the fashion statement

Not only is Nick their Homeboy, he makes some great moves on the pitch

Columbus brought in Sideshow Bob’s kid for reinforcements

These fans had the right idea, can zombies be fans?

Smoke and sun made for a great day for La Barra Real

Nat fires an early shot

There was a lot of this type action as both teams played their share of long balls

Nat as in a lot of offensive chances early, this one missed by inches

Fabi battled for every ball the whole time he was in

One of the hardest hip checks seen outside of hockey in years

Told you there were a lot of these in and out of the box

Hesmer and the Crew packed the box for most of the match
I think official missed the fact that Robbie was holding on to stop the push, not the other way

In the end Robbie poked Yura’s pass just beyond Hesmer in the 88th minute

It all too much for the very defensive minded Crew in the end, funny on a week when Payne accused RSL of playing ugly when they went to DC, that was the ugliest I have seen a team come into Rio Tinto and play.

Excellent pics. Findley really played hard last game. It was good to see.
There was another play you may catch as you watch the tape Denz at the very end where Yura makes a run from the top all the way to the back and plays the ball perfectly defensively up near the top of the 18 when it appeared C-Bus was going to put in the equalizer.
For me, that play was one that should be shown to all people who doubt Yura’s heart or ability. Many forwards wouldn’t have done that I dare say. But he knew that it was a huge moment in the game and he hustled back and did what you’re supposed to (yes, that is true so I know it’s hard to laud a guy for doing his job) but it was still a good play to see, and I for one am going to miss the heck out of the guy when he goes to Randers.
Overall it was a fun game to watch. I wish I could have made it. Sorry I couldn’t take you up on your offer of tickets. I totally would have done it if the game were even an hour earlier. My kid enjoyed trick-or-treating and my wife doesn’t hate my guts as much as usual so I guess I made the right call. I would have loved to have been there though. The crowd was awesome too. Kudos to all of you for being twice as loud and bringing it for the team. You rule.

Funny I just did my match review and the play you mention did grab my attention and the one thing that has impressed me all year long from Yura is his effort to support the defense. I do still think he goes down to easily from time to time.
I think from the situation in July to now that the relationship between the team and Yura has greatly improved and since we will still own his MLS rights you might just see him back here sometime in the future if things don’t go well in Europe (think landon, and so many others who have left only to come back).

My brother was telling me how bad Randers sucks and the possibility of relegation. Is there anything in his contract that you’ve heard about that gives him an “out” if they are relegated? How weird would it be if they got relegated and he was back playing with RSL on opening night next season? I for one would love it. Especially if it were a last minute surprise and he shows up in uniform.
That would be like a professional wrestling surprise angle moment and I think the place would go crazy.
I thought at a time that we’d seen the last of Espindola, and it is now looking like his best days are ahead of him as a member of RSL. So maybe the same can be said of Yura (I HOPE!).

Me, I have heard that Yura’s contract may indeed be tied to Randers staying up but I don’t know. I do know that by RSL not selling his rights to Randers that RSL will continue to own his MLS rights, which could be a very good thing down the road.
I do like the new effort of Espindola, his work rate is tops but I think he is in the same boat Yura was at the start of the year, putting too much pressure on himself to score. There were more than a couple times on Saturday that he took on too many defenders instead of passing the ball. We as a team have to put a great value on the assists that the forwards create for others, I loved the ball from Will to Yura and from Yura into the box and via Robbie into the back of the net. That goal could be a huge difference maker in the RSL postseason.

After the game Saturday night, we were listening to the extended post-game on the radio. Trey Fitzgerald mentioned that there is a relegation clause in the contract for Yura, and that is why he was not released until the end of the season; so RSL could retain his rights. Randers is currently sitting bottom of the Danish League, and 14 points away from the closest team that is not in fear of relegation.
Trey also said that the Danish league breaks for the winter, so they play a second half of the season starting around March/April. Based on that, Yura probably cannot/will not be released until May/June sometime.
I’m still keeping my hopes up that we’ll see Yura in the Claret and Cobalt again next season, but it won’t be on opening day.

Thanks for the info guys. It’s not that I want Yura to struggle or anything, but it would be cool if he went over there and improved his game and built confidence against some top competition (I know that the league he is heading to isn’t like he’s heading for the Premiership or anything, but hey…. every bit helps) and then after relegation he comes back and rips it up for another couple of years. Yura at his best is what this organization needs to reach their potential I think, or at the very least a player with his skill set. I have watch him grow tremendously over the past year+ and it has been a great thing to see.
The talent is certainly there. He has played hard when he had every reason to tank, which shows me that he has pride and wants to do well for the fans and the team. He will certainly be missed.
I totally agree on Espindola and the pressure thing. I think the thing about him is that he has shown flashes of what he can do and it is just too much talent-wise to let him leave. Someday it’s all going to click and we’ll be darn glad he’s on our side. That goal against Chivas earlier in the year was a prime example. I think he is excellent at bringing the ball into the corner and drawing defenders down and centering. We just need the other guys to figure out how to finish those. Then maybe he’d be less likely to press so much. We know he can shoot and pass. Now it is time to put everything together. I’m sure he’d be twice the player he were now if he were centering balls to Ruud. Heh heh. Like that will ever happen!
