Real Salt Lake strikes more rare air with partners

One thing is clear about RSL and its leadership they are leading the way for MLS and most of professional sports when it comes to sponsors and partnerships. Just a few years ago Real Salt Lake became the first major North American professional sports team with a front of jersey sponsor, when they signed Xango to a deal. In the last year they struck a deal with Rio Tinto for stadium naming rights, one of the top deals in MLS, and then over the offseason with the economy in chaos they struck again. Deals with Burger King and Jet Blue were added to the list of partnerships and sponsors of the team, and today the partnership with Jet Blue will take another leap for sports in the US as they unveil the first sports branded jet.

To kick the day off Jet Blue has announced some cool specials on their homepage jetblue.com, here are the details of not only great prices on airfare but a discount for the next home match:

The afternoon will see Jet Blue unveil “Real Blue” their first ever sports branded jet. The aircraft features a custom exterior illustration, created by artist John Wilkinson, of a Real Salt Lake player in action with the team’s cobalt blue, claret red and gold colors throughout, bringing the partnership to life in an engaging and memorable way. Real Salt Lake’s name, colors and identity are also featured throughout the plane’s interior.

“It is truly an honor for the Real Salt Lake identity, brand and colors to be utilized in this way,” said RSL Head Coach Jason Kreis, one of the league’s pioneers and author of 108 career MLS goals. “For our partner, JetBlue, to make such a bold commitment to soccer in the United States, and for RSL to be the first-ever American soccer team recognized in this fashion, speaks volumes about our ascending profile in Salt Lake and in the U.S.”

Real Salt Lake’s impact on the game and the diverse, brand-loyal and family-oriented fan demographic of Major League Soccer align well with JetBlue’s brand,” said JetBlue CEO Dave Barger. “We’re proud to debut our first sports-branded aircraft in the spirit of soccer, in a city that is home to more than 2,000 JetBlue Crewmembers.”

I will be heading out this afternoon to take some pictures of the new jet and will post them later today.
