Real Salt Lake’s version of “Worst Match Ever”
May 19, 2009 by f4denz.
Well who would have thought that RSL would drop such a horrible performance in front of their largest crowd of the season so far? If you watch the Simpsons at all you know the catch phrase of Comic Book guy, and if he had been at the match he would have surely declared the match the “Worst Match Ever”. Some would ask if it was worse than the 0-6 defeat back in 2006 at the Red Bulls, or the 1-5 defeats at Chivas or DC United in 2005? I would say yes, first consider that expectations, talent level, and playing at home all would tend to put a lot of weight on this match as the worst in RSL history.
I have little desire to re-watch the match but will do so tomorrow and offer my thoughts and review then, for now I am simply going to post some pictures from the match. One thing is clear that the passion and energy in the crowd was top notch from the new sellout capacity of 19,340, that will be the capacity until at least the All Star Match as the stage area will not be moved before the end of July.
Anyhow here are the pictures, more can be seen at connect.roguecavaliers.com

Kids enjoying Carnival Real and testing out RSL’s new backup keeper

One of my new wallpaper images, let me know if you want a higher quality copy of this to use as your wallpaper.

Nothing beats tailgating on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, we all should have stayed in the parking lot.

Free haircuts were offered, but only one style was allowed

Bill was all smiles before the match

Robbie’s shiner is almost gone

Javi warming up

Almost 80 and Olave still is wearing a jacket

The ladies got to take the flags out this time

Wolff looked good in warmups but even better in the match, he got both of KC’s goals

La Barra Real were out in force

Out of the tunnel

Perhaps the best part of the night, these kids nailed the national anthem

Getting ready for battle

What should have been a dominating lineup

The fans are ready

really ready

The RCB is ready

Robbie gets an early chance but Hartman was there

Not like the officials were paying attention to the pulling and tugging going on

So what would have happened if this had been called?

Yura was also getting forward early in the match

Not sure which looks worse? Bleach blonde hair or road construction orange jersey

Robbie and Yura trying to create some offense

Section 26

The battles in the air were epic all match long

What is this a tickle fest mid match?

La Barra Real were rocking

Hey Jewsbury get off your knees

The South end was fairly full

Even the upper deck was full

Leo may have fans but he still doesn’t have a tail

Another battle in the air

Robbie getting past the first defender

But like almost all of RSL’s attacks it ended in regrouping in the midfield and turning the ball over

Wolff celebrates goal one by playing spiderman with the net

Yura looks like he has a little Captain in him

More than once this match looked like wrestling more than soccer

One of his seven saves on the night

Russell with a deep throw in

Will wasn’t the only one with issues with the officials

Another battle in the air

Shot off the post

A yellow card, one of 3 for KC and RSL got 2

This one finally got called, but RSL couldn’t convert the free kick

Kramer, what more can be said?

Kyle looking to get something going

Well since your bleeding I guess you might have been fouled

Fabi gets some playing time

Wolff celebrates by throwing a streamer back into the stands, isn’t that against the rules? Where is MLS on this one?

bad behavior

Give up a goal and a keeper all on one play

I don’t even want to know the story on this one

Javi makes a run

Fabi on the attack

Will looking for a chance

Hey, AJ it’s all your fault

The after party was a good time

Nachos and seefood
