Real Salt Lake’s Night before the big match

Twas the night before the big match

I am by no imagination a poet, but I do love Christmas and the anticipation that comes on the night before, so I thought I would pay homage to our new stadium opening by trying to redo a classic:

Twas the night before the grand opening, when all through the stadium
Not a player was stirring, not even Beckerman;
The signage was hung everywhere with care
In hopes that Coach Jason soon would be there;

The players were nestled all snug in their beds,
While the visions of the playoffs danced in their heads;
And Supporter were drinking their Killian Reds
Casual fans wishing the match started at seven instead.

When out on the pitch there arose such a clatter,
I went to the webcam site to see what was the matter.
I used google chrome and the site opened in a flash,
then I closed down pop up offering free cash.

The lights on the roof were on high glow
Gave the luster of mid-day to the objects below,
when what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But guy in a suit, and the commish Mr. Garber,

With a Rio Tinto hat, so perky and red,
I was thankful it didn’t say Dick’s I would rather be dead.

The next day came without much delay
Robin blew his whistle and I hear him loudly Say:

Now Yura! Now Robbie! Now Will! Now Ian and Chris, and don’t forget Clint Mathis!
On Jamison! On Nat! On Nick! On Kyle and Javi Morales!
On the attack we go, to the top of the eighteen!
Everyone stares as Yura unleashes a shot like none ever seen!

As all eyes looked at the back of the net,
Poor Jon Conway looked very upset.
Off to the corner did the RSL boys flew,
With high fives all around, even a hug or two.

And then, in an instant, I head the announcer bay
GOOOOOAAAALLLLLLLL, what else could he say
The stadium erupted in cheers heard for miles,
and even Jason Kreis cracked a smile.

As Terry Vaughn checked his watch to see the time
to his lips went the whistle, and with that the match was over.
The players celebrated their victory, like they always do
The final score New York 1, RSL 2
