1st Real Salt Lake Rumor of 2009 Freddy Montero?

RSL finds a new striker?

I know it isn’t 2009 yet, but with just 3 regular season matches left it is plenty early enough for rumors and since I don’t speak or read Spanish I can’t tell for sure but here is the rumor:
Freddy Montero to Seattle Sounders FC?
We’re not sure to make of this, especially the part that says “MLS bought 60% of his rights for 2 million dollars” but we pass it on as rumor because, well that’s what it is. The 22 year old striker/attacking midfielder is currently with Colombian side Deportivo Cali (The same club RSL’s Jamison Olave called home before MLS). Montero has the nickname “El Matador”. MLS could use another Juan from Colombia since Juan Toja left for Steau Bucharest.

So the post is that MLS bought the rights, MLSR thinks this means Seattle, but if you read the comments to the post it seems someone is linking this move to RSL and using a site called futbolred.com as their source, I could only find this article and I could not see anything specific about RSL. Perhaps someone who reads Spanish could check out the site and let me know.

So the question then becomes who is Freddy Montero?
Wikipedia Page Not a lot of info on the Wikipedia page, other than he is a 21 yr old striker for Deportivo Cali, you know the team RSL got this years stud of year Jamison Olave from, and we know based on performance that a couple RSL strikers may not be around next season. Freddy is listed as the leading goal scorer in the Columbian league with 15 goals in 27 matches in all competitions this season.

There are some videos of Freddy on You Tube I watched a couple of them and he appears to be a good young player. Best Clip

I will leave this one out there for you all do a bit more digging into, but it is interesting and would be a move that would make sense on a couple levels, we already have a relationship with Cali. Could this be the price for sending back Olave after this years loan? Will the Deuchar experiment continue into 2009? It sure fits the model of getting good young players, since Freddy is just 21, but I believe he is getting national team attention in Columbia and recently got his first cap.

Anyhow that is the news I woke up to and now you know what I was able to find out early on a Monday morning.
