Real Salt Lake still tops the West

So there were a number of local and national cynics and pundits that were sure that with no matches over two weeks that RSL would drop from the top spot in the West as teams from LA both the Galaxy and Chivas would move up the standings. Reality is that the Galaxy got beat by bottom dweller San Jose and Chivas dropped back to back decisions to Eastern conference foes and RSL will remain in first place heading into their matchup on the 16th with Houston.

RSL will need to not only play well on the road; they will need to get results. Starting with the matchup against Houston, a draw would be good enough to keep first place for at least another week, but the reality is that wins will be vital and a victory over Houston would send a message to the rest of the league that RSL is a team to be taken seriously. Considering that the most recent MLS power rankings by ESPN have Houston #2 and RSL #3, this should be one of the biggest matchups of the season.

5 days left in the transfer window

Well RSL now has two roster spots open and just a couple days left in the MLS transfer window, what can we expect? Well Freddie Ljungberg wants almost 2 million dollars for the remainder of the MLS season, so scratch him off the list, because we really don’t need a huge over paid ego on the roster. Consider that he only scored 4 goals last season in 30 matches for West Ham, enough said.

There were a number of new faces at the RSL scrimmage on Saturday, not sure of the full names but it is the first I have heard of Saldana, Jantzen, or Kip, and while they don’t appear to be the major signing to boost our offense. I have not heard of any impending trips overseas by Garth or Jason, so I imagine they already know what players they are still interested in and hopefully we will hear some news early in the week.

That is it for a Sunday
