Weekend wrap up

Real Salt Lake headlines

Kragthorpe: Real Salt Lake primed for the start of something good strib.com
His team continually pressured the opponent’s goal during the second half, only to keep missing scoring chances and settle for a 0-0 tie with Houston. Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis could hardly believe it.
“You just have to figure that one of those is going to hit somebody’s butt and go in or something,” Kreis said. “We just need a bounce to go our way, a little bit of luck.”

Nick Rimando stopped Brian Mullan’s shot from inside the penalty box in the 84th minute, preserving Real Salt Lake’s 0-0 tie with the Houston Dynamo on Thursday night.

Dynamo’s scoring doldrums continue (Real Salt Lake settles for 0-0 tie after dominating most of the match) chron.com
If reports that the Dynamo are close to signing a forward pan out, he can’t get to the team fast enough.
Thursday night, they couldn’t get the attack going, much less the scoring. A strong defensive effort saved the Dynamo from being overrun by a determined Real Salt Lake in a scoreless tie at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Give & Go: Real Salt Lake’s Nick Rimando goal.com
At the center of Real Salt Lake’s recent ascension up the Western Conference standings has been goalkeeper Nick Rimando. The 29-year-old has been a rock in the back, allowing only three goals in the team’s last seven games. In that time, he’s posted four clean sheets, as well.

RSL ties, misses chance at first place sltrib.com
Minutes after RSL was forced to settle for a scoreless tie with the two-time defending MLS champion Houston Dynamo, RSL head coach Jason Kreis had a simple message for media members before beginning his postgame press conference.
“You guys may want to pitch in for my fine,” is how he put it to reporters.
    And off he went.
In a tirade that may very well earn him his second league mandated suspension of the season, Kries harshly criticized the officiating, calling it ridiculous, all while insinuating that his team comes up on the short end each time a referee blows his whistle.

Real Salt Lake 0-0 Houston soccernet.espn.go.com
With first place on the line, neither Real Salt Lake nor the Houston Dynamo could put one in the back of the net. Though not for a lack of trying.

Entering Thursday night’s showdown between, the two clubs had 19 points apiece - two behind the Western Conference-leading Los Angeles Galaxy. But despite a relentlessly active offensive showing by Real Salt Lake and a few late chances by Houston, the teams played to a scoreless draw to remain in a dead heat for second place in the West.

Real Pissed Off.
What a wild night in Salt Lake. In a game that saw no goals, a lot certainly went on.

If you watched Houston at Real Salt Lake on ESPN2 tonight you saw a spirited match between two sides vying for 1st place in the MLS Western Conference. You also no doubt saw a highly physical game which at times seemed to get out of control resulting in 6 yellow cards,1 red card, handbags at 30 paces and a very pissed off Jason Kries.
