Beckham bring Galaxy back from the brink American soccer news
The L.A. Galaxy came back from being down by two goals to tie Real Salt Lake 2-2, thanks in large part to David Beckham’s stunning performance.
RSL entered Saturday’s match looking to continue their solid performance at home, having just defeated San Jose 4-0 in the U.S. Open Cup play-in match on Wednesday. After 20 minutes it looked as though RSL would continue to score goals in bunches at home, only to see both the lead and their control of the match erode in a span of five minutes thanks to two bending David Beckham goals.

MLS Weekend: Crew Still Class ussoccerplayers.typepad.com/ussocerplayers (good wrap up of the weekend in MLS)
USSoccerPlayers — Chicago was the only club to rise above the ten point jam behind Columbus, easily beating New England while the Crew continue to be the class of Major League Soccer.

There’s only one David Beckham (And really, who could afford two?) The star of stars showed why there’s more to him than tattoos and great crosses. Beckham erased a 2-0 Galaxy deficit with a pair of long-range bombs, including one of his trademark free kicks, to save the Galaxy a point from a 2-2 tie against Real Salt Lake.
LA Galaxy 2 – Real Salt Lake 2 A Supporter’s View
The Los Angeles Galaxy looked well on their way to another ugly loss. Two early goals gave Real Salt Lake a nice lead and more than 22,000 in attendance at Rice-Eccles Stadium must have figured they were going to see another home blowout like the 4-0 drubbing of D.C. United.
That was before David Beckham put on his Superman cape and began blasting away from distance. His two long-range goals tied the game up before halftime and gave the Galaxy a boost of confidence that was sorely needed.

Beckham brings a lot more to soccer than fame Salt Lake Tribune
There was no better gauge this week of the importance of David Beckham to Major League Soccer than at a gathering of MLS officials, Real Salt Lake owner David Checketts and players from RSL and the L.A. Galaxy at the construction site of RSL’s stadium in Sandy.
Just seconds after Checketts graciously thanked Beckham for being the first to put a shovel into the dirt at the groundbreaking ceremony almost two years ago, speaking as if Beckham had somehow transferred magical powers into the dirt, Checketts casually asked where RSL coach Jason Kreis was.
Beckham’s two goals give Los Angeles tie Salt Lake Tribune
Playing the L.A. Galaxy and David Beckham can be a twin-edged sword. For example, the third-ever largest crowd to see a Real Salt Lake soccer match in Rice Eccles Stadium - 25,500 on Saturday - was special for RSL. It is old hat for the Galaxy. “It’s very good for us,” said Los Angeles coach Ruud Gullit following an entertaining 2-2 tie. “When [teams] play against us . . . it helps us to be on top of every game. There are no easy games for us because everyone wants to beat us.”

Real Salt Lake notes: Morales finally shines for RSL Deseret News
Real Salt Lake’s highest-paid player finally had that elusive breakout game everyone’s been waiting for.
Since he showed up at training camp fit and healthy back in February, expectations have been sky-high for Argentine midfielder Javier Morales — the team’s highest-paid player. In five games prior to Saturday night, however, he’d only delivered two assists and hadn’t quite lived up to the hype.
Real Salt Lake: Real reserves cruise to win Deseret News (nice to see some coverage of the Reserves)
Since the MLS Reserve Division was created four years ago, teams throughout the league have adopted differing approaches to the reserve games. Real Salt Lake assistant coach Brian Johnson said there’s a fine line between trying to develop players and winning reserve games. With that said, Johnson said RSL’s approach is pretty simple. The new coaching staff is trying to create a culture of winning throughout the organization.
