Champions League and DCU troubles continue

Can anyone beat Man U?

After watching Man U beat a Roma team that did it’s all to slow them down without having a whole lot of success, can anyone beat them? Putting up two goals, one a brilliant header from the world’s best player Cristiano Ronaldo and a opportune goal by Wayne Rooney when the Roma defense let down their guard for a moment. In the other match Barcelona put up a 1-0 result against Schalke, but did not look that impressive in doing so. With the other two matches taking place tomorrow, the only question left in my mind is can anyone beat Man U, or will they add a Champions League title to winning the Premiership? I doubt even the boys from Liverpool can pull this off.

DC United drops another one

After dropping their MLS season opener to Kansas City, the team many “soccer experts” picked to win the MLS Cup this season and be the first team to represent MLS in the FIFA World Club Tournament, DC United headed south to Mexico to face Pachuca for the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup semi finals. Much like the match against KC, something seems to be wrong with DC they lack the composure, the fluid attack is gone, and they seem to simply be a bunch of guys playing on the same pitch. Could the departure of Christian Gomez be the source of this funk that DC United appears to be in? I know two things when it comes to that, first DC United does not look like a team that will win the MLS cup, but it is mighty early in the season and anything can happen in MLS. Second, Colorado looks like one of the best teams in MLS, with a good number of their top players on the shelf with injuries, but they looked impressive against the Galaxy. Once again you have to remember that it is very early in the season but of the teams that played last weekend Colorado and New England appear to be the best of MLS.

Predictions Updates

So I was sure that the aging Chris Klein would be able to solidify the LA Galaxy back line, but it appears he doesn’t like playing defense and spent more time in the midfield and attack, and this caused the Galaxy defense give up 4 goals without answering with any of their own. Now I can not blame all of it on Chris, and I will still hold out hope that if he accepts a more defensive role on the pitch that he could put himself back in the running for Defender of the Year.

More shocking to me is that New England has announced that Taylor Twellman is out 6-8 weeks with an injury picked up in practice, it will take a superman like effort to win the MVP award after missing the first two months of the season, but I am going to stick with my pick. Taylor will be eager to prove to the teams overseas that have expressed interest in signing him, that he is fit and will lead the Rev’s to a MLS title this season.
