It has been a very long time
So the off season is wrapping up and it is time for me to pay attention to blogging again.
Let me start off with the negative, the front office has made a lot of changes, new director of marketing and communications, new marketing manager, more new sales people than you can count, but we still have Trino and Trey on staff so you may actually see a person you recognize when you go to the front office. I have to say however that all the changes have not in my opinion improved the performance of the front office, some basic business leadership is needed. If a customer emails you, don’t call them unless they ask you to, and don’t have someone else deal with the email without asking the customer if it is alright. Do not call your customers during the middle of the day, unless they ask you to, most of us have jobs that frown on personal calls in the middle of the day.
I also think the FO has done a horrible job with questions about the new stadium, on one hand they tell us that they don’t know the exact seat locations in the stadium so they can’t tell us our priority number, or where our seat might be located in the new stadium. Then in the very next breath they brag about the virtural 3D seat software that will be coming soon, which could not be started without exact numbers of seats being know, not to mention that if they don’t know how many seats will be in each section, how did they order the seats? Let me guess they just made up a number?
Come on guys, I understand if you don’t know the prices at the new stadium, or just don’t want to talk about it, or I can understand if your considering a popular fan gouging idea like selling your customers “seat licenses”. But please do not expect us to believe that with only 6 months before the stadium is ready for prime time, that you do not know exactly how many sections, how many rows will be in each section, and how many seats will be in each row in each section. Give us a break.
Now on to the positives, if you think things have changed in the front office, just wait until you see the team on the pitch on opening day. Not only did we have the draft to add some new faces, but many well know players like Jamie Watson, Atiba Harris, Esky, Willis Forko, and many others have been traded or let go, Eddie Pope has retired. Under 20 players from last years roster remain, new players both from within the MLS ranks, and from international teams around the globe have been added, we will have a lot of new names to learn. Names like; Nimo, Borchers, Dema Kovalenko, Joy, and Kenny Deuchar “the doctor” have been added, we may also see Indra Sahdan Daud offered a spot. With only 28 spots allowed, it looks like we will see at least 9 new faces at the start of the season, and this time many appear to be some serious upgrades.
At the beginning of each new season fans of all teams in all sports are usually optimistic about their teams chances to improve, well I can only hope that this year our dreams will be realized. Last year we claimed the Rocky Mountain Cup, the first silverware in RSL history, this year keeping it, and making the playoffs are not only goals, but honest expectations of all fans. Anything less is not going to be acceptable, I still am calling on both Jason and Garth to put their jobs on the line. It is time to put up or shut up, if RSL doesn’t make the playoffs, then both Garth and Jason have to go.
