Coming Soon

OK, I have been a bit of a slacker lately as far as blogging goes, I have actually been very busy with work, and working on a new RCB site.

Hopefully work will slow down and I can get back into blogging on a more regular basis. After all the off- season really isn’t a slow time, we have an expansion draft where San Jose will start building their team, we have the 2008 Super draft, with RSL having 3 first round picks.

The RCB site, will be a bit more interactive with some great new features like; chat, vortex, member email, and such.

Until then

MNF- Salt Lake Style

So here we are on the day of the last home match of what was considered by some a “trainwreck” of a season. I must admit that my expectations were not even close to being met, but I must also admit that I think we are a lot closer to establishing a winning team now than we have ever been in the past 3 years. Tonight we will be farewell to Eddie Pope, one of the greatest American defenders ever, the shame is that he never will get the chance to lead this team to the playoffs and that despite his efforts, so many young defenders brought in to be his under studies, have simply failed. I am not sure whose fault that is but the list is long and I really do not want to beat a dead horse.

Tonight’s projected lineups:

Pregame activities include a video tribute to both Eddie Pope and Jason Kreis, both MLS originals that have had a huge impact on the league, tonight is also Fan Appreciation night.

“To be able to come from such a little country hometown and be playing in Europe and things like that, the World Cup.  That’s not something I could have imagined would have happened….  I’ve been very, very fortunate.” –  RSL defender Eddie Pope

ON TO OTHER NEWS

Razov out 4-6 weeks

Ante Injured during match against Dallas This injury could hurt their hunt for the MLS championship (they were my choice to win it all before this injury)

More than you could ever want to know

MLS Player’s CBA 68 pages of the what’s and why’s of the MLS and it’s players. Everything from Salary requirements, drug testing, discipline standards, and a whole lot more. My favorite find in this document so far:

Accordingly, the Player agrees that he will not engage in sports or activities which constitute a substantial danger to his health or safety (including, but not limited to, American or Canadian football, boxing or wrestling, motorcycling, moped-riding, auto racing, sky-diving, in-line skating, down-hill snow skiing, mountain biking, bicycle racing, mountain/rock climbing and rappelling, spelunking and hang-gliding)”

Some interesting facts and info about the upcoming friendly with the chocolate people

Tell Me About: Switzerland a fun read from the people at ussoccerplayers.com. My favorite part is the last question and answer:

Is it true that the official team mascot is a chocolate cow with blond pigtails wearing a high-precision watch, gazing wistfully up at the mountains while a gnome standing on gold bars on the inside operates the animal so that it sings ‘Cuckoo!’ at regular intervals?  No.

Some Ammo for those heading out to the Crapids match next weekend

The crapids go swat OK now this is just too freaking funny, it almost sounds like something dreamed up by a rocket science person.

Hall of Fame and other tidbits

OK, I would like to say “congrat’s” to Jason Kreis for being named to the Duke University Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2007. I did not realize that he was a 3 time All-American while playing at Duke. It was a bit funny watching him get embarrassed last night by Bill Riley on the Coach’s show, you could tell once again that Jason is not a real self promoter, when it comes to himself. In fact he had not even announced it the team, despite the press release over a month ago, I hope he has a great time at the ceremony on Thursday night.

Is Soccer gaining a foothold in the US?

I found an interesting article online From Football Stadium Digest, so even a site dedicated to pointy ball, has noticed the recent trend of soccer specific stadiums being built. They draw the conclusion that soccer must be doing better in the US, if people are willing to build stadiums.

Interesting US national team roster

So a few players with RSL connections have been called into camp for the US vs. Switzerland match Roster Announced, a great chance for Robbie Findley to get some time with the national team, and maybe we will even get to see Chris Seitz get some playing time.

The “new” quakes get a GM

So shortly after RSL announced our GM, the new version of the SJ quakes introduced their choice for GM John Doyle, the article offers a quick glimpse at his backround.

OK I am off to BYU for the reserve match, more later
